Raleigh basketball scout and life coach sentenced to prison for obtaining nearly $300,000 in fraudulent COVID-19 relief loans in nationwide scheme
June 23, 2025 — Earl Lamont Taylor was sentenced to six years in prison Monday and will be ordered to pay over half a million dollars in restitution to the Small Business Administration. Taylor went to trial in November and ultimately pled guilty to one count each of bank fraud and wire fraud while the jury was deliberating. He received almost $300,000 in fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) COVID-19 loans.

June 23, 2025 — United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announces the unsealing of an indictment charging Leo Joseph Govoni (Clearwater) and John Leo Witeck (Tampa) in connection with a fraud scheme that involved stealing more than $100 million from, and ultimately bankrupting, a nonprofit organization in Clearwater that managed funds for vulnerable individuals with special needs and disabilities.

Miami man sentenced to federal prison for $2.3 million COVID-19 unemployment insurance benefits fraud scheme
June 24, 2025 — Today, U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Maddox sentenced David Godin, of Miami, Florida, aka “James St Patrick,” “David Wetty,” and “Vic Pro,” to 78 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Godin pled guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection with a scheme to defraud the Maryland Department of Labor (MD-DOL) and California Employment Development Department (CA-EDD).
