Houston Community College (HCC) entrepreneurial workshops
HCC is hosting several entrepreneurial workshops and if you’re a small business owner you’ll want to attend. Various topics will be discussed such as e-file, hiring employees vs contractors, home office use, payroll management, tax scams and more. July 12 - Getting IRS Help - We will provide guidance on how to obtain IRS assistance online, by phone, in-person, and through self-service options. We will give an overview of IRS Stakeholder Liaison, Taxpayer Assistance, and Taxpayer Advocate Units and the services each provide.
July 19 - Getting Ready Ahead of Filing Season - This topic will cover tax return preparation & payment options, obtaining personal tax information, checking refund status, selecting a tax preparer, IRS Direct File (for select states), paycheck checkup, and year-round tax planning tips.
July 26 - Claiming Refundable Tax Credits- Information about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit, American Opportunity Tax Credit, Premium Tax Credit, and other refundable credits available to taxpayers.
August 24 - Protecting Against Identity Theft-? We will discuss steps taxpayers can take to protect their tax-related information, including how to use the Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) to secure their return information.
