Lehigh Acres couple sentenced to prison for COVID relief fraud
July 14, 2022 — U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber has sentenced Amber Rewis Bruey (Lehigh Acres) to four years in federal prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and illegal monetary transactions. Her husband and co-conspirator, Anthony James Bruey, was sentenced to four years and three months in federal prison for the same offenses. Mr. and Ms. Bruey had pleaded guilty on February 4, 2022, and March 16, 2022, respectively.

Romero announced that Jose Baez and Jessenia Cordero, a married couple, both of Allentown, PA, were charged by way of complaint with one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States with respect to certain claims, conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft, and conspiracy to commit mail fraud, all stemming from Baez and Cordero filing fraudulent tax returns and PUA applications with stolen identities.
