Chambersburg man sentenced to 27 months in prison for preparing false tax returns
April 15, 2024 — The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Guibbonz Marcellus of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, was sentenced on April 12, 2024, by U.S. District Court Judge Jennifer P. Wilson to 27 months’ imprisonment on 23 counts of aiding and assisting the preparation of false and fraudulent tax returns. Marcellus was convicted following a jury trial in July 2023.

Owners of Florida labor-staffing companies sentenced for tax and immigration fraud and money laundering
Jan. 27, 2025 — Two Ukrainian nationals who were extradited from the Kingdom of Thailand to the United States in September 2024 were sentenced today on charges related to labor-staffing companies they operated in Florida. Oleg Oliynyk and Oleksandr Yurchyk were each sentenced to 15 years in prison for conspiracy to defraud the United States and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Two Ohio residents arrested for conspiring to defraud the EIDL program
December 15, 2023 — Herman Brunis and Gina Brunis were indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering by a federal grand jury in the Southern District of Ohio. Herman Brunis and Gina Brunis were arrested by special agents with IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) with assistance from the Blue Ash, Cincinnati and Reading police departments.

The usual Aug. 31 deadline is delayed until the next business day because it falls on a Saturday this year.

March 15, 2023 — United States Attorney Mac Schneider, District of North Dakota, announced that on March 14, 2023, Thompson B. Tarr, from Fargo, ND, pled guilty in Federal Court, Fargo, ND, before Chief Judge Peter D. Welte, to the offenses of Aiding and Assisting in the Preparation and Presentation of a False and Fraudulent Return. Sentencing is scheduled for August 7, 2023.
