IR-2023-157, Aug. 30, 2023 — The Internal Revenue Service today announced that starting Jan. 1, 2024, businesses are required to electronically file (e-file) Form 8300, Report of Cash Payments Over $10,000, instead of filing a paper return. This new requirement follows final regulations amending e-filing rules for information returns, including Forms 8300.

Former Rochester man going to prison for more than 20 years for his role in Ponzi and COVID-19 fraud schemes
December 20, 2022 — Christopher A. Parris, formerly of Rochester, NY, and currently of Lawrenceville, Georgia, who was convicted of conspiracy to commit mail fraud related to a Ponzi scheme, as well as to wire fraud involving the fraudulent sale of purported N95 masks during the pandemic, was sentenced to serve 244 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr. Parris was also ordered to pay approximately $106-million dollars in restitution.

Jacksonville man pleads guilty for role in drive-by shooting on I-95 in St. Johns County
Nov. 21, 2024 — United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announces that James Toney (Jacksonville) has pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 100 kilograms or more of marijuana, committing a drive-by shooting in furtherance of a major drug offense, and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. Toney faces a minimum sentence of 15 years, up to life, in federal prison. Toney has also agreed to forfeit $1,000, which represents illicit proceeds derived from drug trafficking.

Ringleader and key co-defendant sentenced to prison for leading firearms trafficking conspiracy
September 1, 2023 — Bisheem Jones, also known as "Bosh," of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today to 25 years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for leading a scheme to traffic over 140 firearms from southern West Virginia to Philadelphia. Shyheem Woodard-Smith, also known as "Peanut" and "Nut," of Philadelphia, was also sentenced today to five years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for his key role in the gun trafficking conspiracy.
