July 14, 2022 — The United States Attorney's Office announced that former Louisiana State Senator and Chair of State Political Party "A," Karen Carter Peterson, from New Orleans, Louisiana, was charged today in a one-count bill of information with wire fraud, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1343.

Former Philadelphia city treasurer pleads guilty to naturalization fraud and failure to file taxes charges

October 13, 2022 — United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced that Christian Dunbar, of Philadelphia, PA, the former Philadelphia City Treasurer, pleaded guilty in front of United States District Court Judge Cynthia M. Rufe to procurement of citizenship unlawfully and through multiple false statements; submitting false citizenship papers; and failure to file tax returns, all in connection with false statements and altered documents he submitted as part of his application to become a U.S. citizen, and failing to file his federal tax returns in three separate years.

Former Philadelphia City Treasurer sentenced to prison for immigration fraud and failure to file taxes

April 5, 2023 — United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced that Christian Dunbar of Philadelphia, PA, the former Philadelphia City Treasurer, was sentenced to six months in prison, 3 years of supervised release, a $10,000 fine, and $33,202.00 in restitution to the IRS by United States District Court Judge Cynthia M. Rufe. His U.S. citizenship will also be revoked. As part of his application to become a U.S. citizen, Dunbar made multiple false statements, submitted altered citizenship papers, and failed to file federal tax returns in three separate tax years.

U.K. citizen extradited and pleads guilty to cyber crime offenses

May 9, 2023 — United States Attorney Ismail J. Ramsey for the Northern District of California, United States Attorney Damian Williams for the Southern District of New York, and Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite, Jr., for the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division announced today that Joseph James O’Connor, a/k/a “PlugwalkJoe,” a U.K. citizen, was extradited from Spain and entered a plea of guilty to two sets of charges involving crimes perpetrated in New York and California.
