Ex-congressman George Santos sentenced to 87 months in prison for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft

April 25, 2025 — Former congressman George Anthony Devolder Santos was sentenced today by United States District Judge Joanna Seybert at the federal courthouse in Central Islip to 87 months in prison for committing wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. As part of the sentence, Santos was ordered to pay restitution to his victims in the amount of $373,749.97 and $205,002.97 in forfeiture. Santos pleaded guilty in August 2024.

June 12, 2025 — Four men, including a government contracting officer for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and three owners and presidents of companies, have pleaded guilty for their roles in a decade-long bribery scheme involving at least 14 prime contracts worth more than $550 million in U.S. taxpayer dollars.

Former Massachusetts state senator sentenced to 18 months in prison for COVID and tax fraud

Feb. 7, 2025 — Former Massachusetts state senator Dean A. Tran was sentenced today in federal court in Boston for scheming to defraud the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance and collecting income that he failed to report to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Pigeon Township trustee and two co-conspirators charged with stealing thousands of dollars from local taxpayers in kickback scheme

April 26, 2023 — A federal grand jury indicted Mariama Wilson, William Payne, and Terrance Hardiman, all of Evansville, on five counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Hardiman was also charged with one count of money laundering. The indictment was unsealed on April 26, 2023, following the three defendants' arrests and initial appearances.
