“Ghost Preparer” charged with tax fraud appears in federal court

March 24, 2023 — Tijan Mboob, a/k/a “TJ,” a/k/a “Teejay McBoob,” a/k/a “Sheikhtijan,” of Charlotte, appeared in federal court today on tax fraud charges, announced Dena J. King U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Mboob was arrested on Thursday, after a federal grand jury returned a 20-count criminal indictment charging him with aiding and assisting in the preparation and filing of false tax returns over a five-year span.

Aug. 2, 2024 — U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today that Jeffrey Tome of Rochester, NY, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr. to filing a false tax return, which carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

IRS: Families will soon receive November advance Child Tax Credit payments; time running out to sign up online to get an advance payment in December

IR-2021-222, November 12, 2021 — The Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department announced today that millions of American families will soon receive their advance Child Tax Credit (CTC) payment for the month of November. Low-income families who are not getting payments and have not filed a tax return can still get one, but they must sign up on IRS.gov by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on Monday, Nov. 15.

April 3, 2025 — Sharon Romaine Ward formerly of West Chester, was sentenced in U.S. District Court here today to 48 months in prison for fraudulently billing more than $8.5 million to Medicare, Medicaid and Veterans Affairs health care programs between 2015 and 2021.

IR-2022-116, June 2, 2022 — The Internal Revenue Service is encouraging taxpayers who have yet to file their 2021 tax return – including those who requested an extension of time – to file a complete and accurate return electronically as early as possible once they have all their information together. There’s no need to wait until the October deadline.
